Recently I led a Fitness Retreat in Nicaragua. You think "Oh, not my thing. I like to have fun during my vacations." Well, that is EXACTLY what we did! Yes, we had Fitness classes including HIIT workouts, Yoga, and Pilates... but that's not all we did. So, I'm going to summarize what all went on to give a little insight so that maybe someday you will join me on one of these great trips. Also, enjoy some of the fun pictures that we got on this last trip. First day, flights arrive in Managua, Nicaragua where you get off your flight to meet a friendly driver holding a sign with your name on it so you know this is your transportation to the resort which was a 2.5 hour drive through the jungle and small towns with great scenery, including some awesome Volcanos and the second largest Jesus Statue in the World. (Every destination is different so understand I am just filling you in on this last trip I had recently to Nicaragua as an example of how things go.) So, arriving at the Resort you meet the Hosts that will be helping you with anything you need while on your stay. On this trip, our destination was Buena Vista Surf Club which is located at Maderas Beach. I HIGHLY recommend! Buena Vista Surf Club gave us each our own private bungalow, which I might add that it overlooks the Pacific Ocean and you have Monkeys hanging out in trees all around you! Breakfast and Dinner was included everyday in the retreat package and it was amazing! We were never hungry! Lunches we would grab where we were hanging out that day. First full day there we woke up, had a Pilates class followed by a Yoga class and then on to Breakfast. After Breakfast we decided that we wanted to go do something fun all together to get to know each other better so we Chartered a Sailboat with Two Guys Adventures. I HIGHLY recommend them as well! So, we went sailing from San Juan Del Sur to a private beach and did some swimming and relaxing. They provided us with Pizza and drinks on the boat. Yes...PIZZA, and yes, this is a FITNESS RETREAT! Most are unaware that a healthy lifestyle does NOT include living your life perfectly focused on consuming everything healthy and not enjoying the things you love. A healthy happy lifestyle is about balance. This trip gave us balance for sure with all the great workouts we did and all the fun and great food we enjoyed! While in San Juan Del Sur we hit up some local shops and got to try some local drinks and smoothies which were delicious! After our sailing and town experience we headed back to our resort for dinner and chill time around the resort. The following days we enjoyed HIIT class (high intensity interval training) in the morning followed by yoga and then breakfast. Daytime between Breakfast and Dinner was filled with Surf lessons, massages, drinks on the beach relaxing, hiking the trails, walking the beach, eating beach tacos, local shopping in town, horseback riding, zip lining...whatever we wanted to do. We did things together and separate. There was no obligation to hangout as a group at all but was also no obligation to find something for yourself to do on your own. We found that some days we pushed really hard on our workouts and didn't spend as much time relaxing. Then there were days we backed down on our workouts because we felt the group out and realized everybody needed more of a chill day to recover. If you have ever surfed in your life you can understand the soreness and exhaustion that comes from this...lol. Nobody was ever pressured into pushing too hard for their ability but those who wanted to be pushed, were pushed! I feel safe to say that there wasn't anyone on this trip who regretted going! If any of this sounds like something you might be interested in doing sometime, make sure to follow me on Instagram @lthornetraining and Facebook to stay up on all the trips I offer. I also offer online training which is really nice for those who don't live close and want to receive my workouts and fitness/nutrition advice. I hope to meet you soon on a wonderful fitness adventure!
